CartCat is for genuine physical games. Every listing is attached to a release in the catalogue, so a listing has to be a copy of that release. These can't be listed at all.
Copies that aren't genuine
- Reproductions: reproduction cartridges, discs, boxes, manuals or labels, sold on their own or as part of a copy. A reproduction box or manual on an otherwise genuine game must be disclosed (below); a reproduction game can't be listed.
- Counterfeits and bootlegs: unlicensed copies, including pirate multicarts and "100 in 1" style cartridges.
- Burned or copied discs, and backups of any kind.
- Flash carts loaded with games (Everdrive and similar). An empty flash cart is an accessory, not a catalogue release, and can't be listed either.
- Modified cartridges presented as originals: reflashed, relabelled, or moved to a replacement shell.
Things that aren't games on a disc or cartridge
- Digital codes, download vouchers and accounts.
- ROM or ISO files, or anything that gives access to them.
- Consoles, controllers and accessories, for now. The catalogue only has games, so there's nothing to attach them to.
Items you can't sell
- Stolen goods, or anything you don't own or aren't allowed to sell.
- Items you don't have yet (pre-orders, or "I can get one").
- Items with mould or insect damage. These spread to other people's collections.
- Anything illegal to sell in Australia or to send to the buyer's country.
Things you have to disclose
These can be sold, but the listing must say so in its condition and notes:
- reproduction or printed boxes, manuals, inserts or labels on a genuine game;
- resealed or re-wrapped copies (they can't be listed as factory sealed);
- a replacement or rental case;
- a dead save battery, or one you've replaced;
- missing discs from a multi-disc game, or missing maps, posters and other notable inserts;
- region modifications, or anything opened and repaired;
- water damage, smoke smell, writing, stickers and other marks;
- grading claims: only quote a grading company's grade when the copy is in its slab and the certificate number is real.
Listings and behaviour
- Listings attached to the wrong release, to borrow another release's search traffic or prices.
- Publisher artwork or another seller's photos used as pictures of your copy.
- Contact details, or offers to deal outside CartCat, in listings or messages.
What happens
We remove listings that break these rules. If one sells, the buyer is refunded in full under Buyer protection, and the seller pays it back. Repeated or deliberate breaches (counterfeits, stolen goods) close the account, and we may report them to the police.
